A long awaited family reunion

August 2021. Four years have gone by since the last time my wife saw her brother and his family, and two years since last time we spent time with her parents.

Our daughter missed her grand parents so much she was overcome with emotion and was a bit lost for words when we finally arrived, on a hot summer afternoon, and ‘nonna’ opened the car’s door to let her out and hug everyone.

More family came around on Sunday for an even larger gathering. Grandpa burnt wood for the BBQ whilst the kids where enjoying the pool.

Her cousin is building toys with wooden boards. A fleet of warships, to be precise. It’s a passion inherited from his dad.

The kids kept asking how potatoes end up in a bag, so grandpa wasted no time in calling a friend who farms potatoes and got the children out and about to see the whole process, from how they are picked-up by the tractor, then transported to the factory, washed and bagged ready to be delivered to the supermarket.

Three weeks have gone so fast and we are about to leave, hopefully it won’t take another two years before we can spend time together again.

There is time for another delicious meal prepared by grandma with beans freshly picked from the orchard.
